Boys soccer: Elgin improves to 4-0; Jacobs tops Marmion

Elgin 1, West Chicago 0: The Maroons moved to 4-0 thanks to a second half goal from Caesar Gomez in an Upstate Eight crossover win. Daniel Zavala had the only assist while keeper Martin Jimenez posted 6 saves in the shutout. Elgin has outscored its opponents this season by a 20-2 margin.

Jacobs 4, Marmion 3: Noah Melick and Colin Walsh were a clutch connection in the second half during the Golden Eagles' win in White Group play at the Barrington tournament. Walsh found Melick twice for goals in the final 5 minutes to help solidify a come-from-behind win over the Cadets (0-5). Ryan Blanchard converted a PK and assisted John O'Conner's goal while keeper Ethan Pickering collected 4 saves for Jacobs (2-2). Sean Miller scored twice for Marmion while Quinn Gratz had 1 goal and 1 assist. Ricky Ruiz had 1 assist and Danny Galush made 3 saves in net.

Larkin 2, Woodstock 0: At the Huntley Tournament, the Royals (1-4) got off the snide against the Blue Streaks. Eddie Alvarado scored both goals for Larkin while Ino Simental and Chris Plantz added assists. Keeper Jorge Nava notched a shutout with 2 saves.

Dundee-Crown 4, Rockford East 1: Julian Ajroja filled up the stat sheet with 1 goal and 2 assists as the Chargers (3-2) won in nonconference action. Eric Martinez and Arnol Batres each had 1 goal and 1 assist while Mario Solano had 1 goal. Keepers Luis Cruz (1 save) and Avery Lovaglia (3 saves) split time in net.

Hampshire 5, Woodstock North 1: The Whip-Purs evened up their record at 2-2 with a nonconference win over the Thunder. Sky Gustafson rocked in 2 goals in while Doug Stuehler had 1 goal and 1 assist. Both Jose Cruz and Michael Curatti had 1 goal. Tyler Fairwood collected 2 assists whereas Nico Barrientos and Braeden Frenette each had one. Keeper Jason Polletta made 5 saves in the first half while Nick Sarrullo made 3 in the second half.

Huntley 2, Von Steuben 0: Luke Loprieno and Aaron Ruffner managed goals for the host Red Raiders (2-2) in a win at the Huntley tournament.

Burlington Central 3, Marengo 0: CJ Heinz, Ryan Wilmington and Jack Schramme each had goals in the Rockets' first Kishwaukee River Conference win over the Indians. Luke Schramme had 2 assists for Central (2-1-2) while David Murphy and Ryan Parsons both split time in goal with 3 saves each.

CL South 4, Hononegah 2: The Gators (4-2) rallied from a 1-0 halftime deficit to win their fourth straight. Oscar Campos, Alex Canfield, Nikolas Getzinger and Brad Grabowski all scored second half goals while Andrew Grabowski tallied a hat trick of assists. Spencer Traub and Brandon Gorka split time in goal, each getting 2 saves.

Westminster Christian 4, Schaumburg Christian 1: Will DeHaan's hat trick propelled the Warriors (1-4-1) to a nonconference win, their first of the season. Lee Grasemann added a goal while keeper Ben Verluys had 4 saves.

Barrington 3, Streamwood 0: The Sabres (3-1-1) dropped their first game of the season to the host Broncos at the Barrington tournament despite keeper Daniel Dominguez's 7 saves.

Plainfield North 2, Bartlett 1: Julio Diaz had an unassisted goal for the Hawks (0-3-1), who lost in nonconference action.

Newark 3, Harvest Christian 2: Rafael DeSouza had both goals for Harvest (1-1) in this nonconference loss. Antonio Navarez had 1 assist and goalie Matthew Baron had 5 saves, including a PK stop.
