Dann & Raymond highlight kids' fantasy films

Join me and Buffalo Grove film historian Raymond Benson as Dann & Raymond's Movie Club presents "We're Off to See the Wizard: The Great Fantasy Films" at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 8, at the Arlington Heights Memorial Library, 500 N. Dunton Ave., Arlington Heights. It's the start of our ninth season at the library. Go to ahml.info for more.

We'll show clips from such classics as "Willie Wonka and the Chocolate Factory" (with a special salute to its late star Gene Wilder), "The Wizard of Oz" (big surprise), "Lord of the Rings" and 12 more. Free admission. Popcorn provided!

<h3 class="briefHead">'President's Men' back</h3>

Cary resident and Chicago Film Critics Association board member Peter Sobczynski will host a special showing of the journalism movie classic "All the President's Men" at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 14, at the Elk Grove Theater, 1050 Arlington Heights Road, Elk Grove Village.

Admission costs $6. Sobczynski, a longtime local film critic, will introduce the film and conduct a brief post-program Q&A. chicagofilmcritics.org or classiccinemas.com.

<h3 class="briefHead">Kids film fest on tap</h3>

Head's up! The touring International Children's Film Festival (no connection to Chicago's International Children's Film Festival next month) will make a stop at the Charlestowne 18 Theatre, 3740 E. Main St., St. Charles on Saturday, Oct. 1. The fest, showcasing nine films from eight countries, begins at 10:15 a.m. Tickets are $5 at the box office. Go to classiccinemas.com.

<h3 class="briefHead">Boo! bashes kids </h3>

Kids will be given the opportunity to show off their scariest acting talents when Chicago playwright and screenwriter John Biggers directs "Boo! Bash: The Movie," an annual fundraiser for educational and youth programs at Chicago's Facets Multimedia.

Children will be invited to be "monsters" in the film at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 23, at Park West, 322 W. Armitage Ave., Chicago. The final edited film will premiere at the Chicago International Children's Film Festival, Oct. 28-Nov. 6. Go to facets.org/boobash.
