'Willy Wonka,' 'Blazing Saddles' in local theaters this weekend

The movies are getting Wilder this weekend.

Gene Wilder's death at the age of 83 Monday has spawned a resurgence of his greatest comedies.

The AMC theater chain announced Thursday audiences can catch “Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory” and “Blazing Saddles” Saturday and Sunday at 55 theaters, including Streets of Woodfield Theatres in Schaumburg.

There, the G-rated “Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory” will be shown at 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 3-4. The R-rated “Blazing Saddles” will be shown at 7:30 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 3-4.

Also, the ArcLight Theater in Glenview will show “Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory” at 1:15 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 3 and 5:25 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 4. It will show “Blazing Saddles” at 5:25 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 3, and 1:15 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 4.

All proceeds will be donated to the Alzheimer's Foundation.

If you miss the suburban showings of Wilder's movies, Chicago's Music Box Theatre will show 35 mm prints of “Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory” at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 13, followed by “Blazing Saddles” at 9:15 p.m.
