Dominican launches information management, informatics program

RIVER FOREST - Dominican University has launched a new master's program for students interested in pursuing career opportunities in the burgeoning fields of information and data management and security.

The new Master of Science in Information Management (MSIM) program prepares students for challenging careers in digital asset management, one of the world's fastest growing fields. It is the only program of its kind in the Chicago metropolitan area, and one of only 11 in the United States.

The program is designed for working professionals and is offered in a flexible, hybrid format that blends the benefits of personal interaction with the ease of online learning. The curriculum is organized around nine required core classes and three electives.

The MSIM will prepare students to manage and comprehend the vast amounts of complex data that technological advances have made available to organizations. The curriculum considers the full range of strategic, technical and ethical issues that have emerged from the "information revolution" that is transforming the way organizations operate and individuals navigate the increasingly complex Information environment.

Dominican also has launched an undergraduate program in informatics, the first in the Chicago area. Students will learn to design and build information systems that solve problems, as well as gain an understanding of the ethical and policy implications related to the world of big data. The program offers specialties in cybersecurity, nursing informatics, community informatics and educational informatics.

The new MSIM degree and informatics program draw on experts in Dominican's highly regarded Graduate School of Library and Information Science, and in associated academic units, such as the Department of Computer Science and the Brennan School of Business. Students enjoy ready access to mentors, employers and thought leaders in the information and related fields.
