Boys cross country: Mundelein strides to Campbell triumph

Mundelein's boys cross country team turned in an impressive performance in the Lake County invitational at Waukegan Sports Park on Wednesday.

The Mustangs won the invite - named after the late Art Campbell, Mundelein's former coach - with 63 points, marking the first time they captured the championship. Grayslake Central (91), last year's Class 2A state champion, was second. Libertyville (107) placed third, and Highland Park (125) and Barrington (148) rounded out the top five.

Defending Class 2A state champ Jack Aho of Grayslake Central won the race easily, as the senior posted a time of 14:35.6. Libertyville junior Alex Tam finished a distant second (15:13.2). Grayslake Central senior Matt Aho (15:14.0) was third, Barrington junior Nicholas Laning (15:24.1) took fourth and Mundelein senior Ben Krauss (15:27.6) placed fifth.

Mundelein sophomore Robert St. Clair (15:29.7) was right behind his teammate in sixth. Libertyville seniors Joe Gasick (15:41.5) and Stephen Richardson (15:44.0) were eighth and ninth.

Mundelein's top five also featured sophomore Alan Salgado (10th, 15:44.8), sophomore Dario Carrillo (11th, 15:47.4) and freshman Carter Schorr (16:32.8).
