Girls volleyball: Palatine tops Naperville North in three sets

Defending Mid-Suburban League West girls volleyball champ Palatine began its tenth season under coach Dan Gavin with a 25-23, 13-25, 22-25 win over visiting Naperville North on Wednesday night.

Gavin's girls will next compete at the Peggy Scholten Invite this weekend hosted by Conant and Fremd.

Rolling Meadows d. Taft: The host Mustangs improved to 3-0 with the 25-17, 25-20 nonconference win.

Sophomore Eleanor Errico (8 kills), Maddie Sellergren (6), Katie Zanocco (4) and Kyra Amundson (3) led the attack set by Natalie Klancnik (12 assists) and Mallory King (9)

Sellergren led the back row with 5 digs while Madeline Rebsamen and Macie Robinson had 4 apiece. Sellergren also had 3 aces while Rebsamen had 2.

Naperville Central d. Fremd: Naperville Central won the nonconference match 25-21, 25-18 over the host Vikings who were led on attack by Sara Ganas and Ysabel Lee with 5 kills apiece in their season opener.

Jessica Rizzo added 3 while Natalie Freund (48-of-48) handed out 12 assists. Karolina Sas led the back row with 9 digs and Ganas had 8.

Jessica Mazur had 3 blocks.

Leyden d. Vernon Hills: The host Eagles posted a 25-21, 22-25, 25-23 nonconference win.

Senior outside hitter Patrycja Streminska (8 kills), Junior right side Camryn McGee (6 kills) and senior middle hitter Jennifer Parker (6 kills, 1 ace) paced the Eagles.

Grayslake Central d Barrington: Grayslake Central won the nonconference match over the visiting Fillies, who now stand at 1-2.
