Palatine accuses store of selling drug paraphernalia

The village of Palatine is accusing a local convenience store of selling drug paraphernalia, and ordered its owners to a disciplinary hearing Friday to determine what punishment, if any, the business should face.

According to the hearing notice, the village claims the Quick Stop Convenience Store at the intersection of Palatine Road and Linden Avenue sold drug paraphernalia. The village plans to present evidence supporting their claim, including statements from Palatine police, at the upcoming hearing.

According to Palatine documents, a village representative saw drug paraphernalia on sale and being sold at the store on two occasions in July.

A call to Quick Stop for comment on the allegations Wednesday went unanswered.

According to village code, any store that sells drug paraphernalia is considered a public nuisance. Examples of drug paraphernalia in the village code include water pipes, cocaine spoons, bongs and roach clips, among other items.

If the village rules against Quick Stop, punishment could include revocation or suspension of its business license, as well as fines and other sanctions.

The hearing will begin at 1 p.m. Friday, in the council chambers at village hall, 200 E. Wood St.
