Veterans Affairs gives local agencies funding to fight homelessness

In an effort to fight homelessness among veterans, the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs is providing $452,238 to Midwest Shelter for Homeless Veterans Inc. in Wheaton and $344,616 to Transitional Living Services Inc. in McHenry, along with about $6.3 million to six agencies based in Chicago.

The funding is part of $300 million nationwide provided through the department's Supportive Services for Veteran Families for outreach, case management and other critical services to very low-income veteran families to prevent homelessness and rehouse those that have recently become homeless.

The funding was announced by U.S. Rep. Tammy Duckworth, a Democrat from Hoffman Estates.
