Girls volleyball: Sterrett nets 11 kills for Schaumburg

Schaumburg's girls volleyball team improved to 2-0 with a 25-15, 18-25, 25-20 triumph over host Lake Park on Tuesday night.

The Saxons were led on attack by junior Morgan Sterrett (11 kills) and senior Mallory Gerber (9 kills). Michaela Encarnacion added 4 kills with 9-of-9 serving and 2 aces.

Jordyn Harberts was also 9-of-9 serving and had 18 assists while Michelle Candotti added 13 assists. Gabby Paelmo collected 20 digs and Julia Spitelli had 3 kills.

Conant d. Mundelein: Jorie Wachal (7 kills), Yuri Hara (7 kills), Ally Peacock (4) and Ayla Kljako (4) led host Conant (2-0) on attack in a 25-21, 25-14 nonconference triumph.

Brianna Wilkens and Brittany Laskero each served 3 aces while Kristina Loznjakovic handed out 18 assists.

Niles West d. Buffalo Grove: Niles West won the nonconference match 15-25, 25-20, 25-20 as the Bison (2-7) were led on attack by Marianna Galati (6 kills), Sasha Rozhko (5 kills) and Kannella Kalyviaris (4). Maggie Streckert handed out 11 assists while Hannah Schuler had 8. Kiarra Akiyoshi collected 14 digs.

Maine West d. Leyden: The visiting Warriors (3-0) battled through injury and illness won the nonconference match 25-17, 19-25, 25-12. Playing without four players, West received solid efforts from all eight healthy players.

Among the leaders were Jessica Riedl (15 kills), Ally Block (14 digs, 13 assists), Bianca Mando (12 digs) and Amanda Grzebien (5 kills, 3 aces).

Senior outside hitter Patrycja Streminska led Leyden with 6 kills.
