Man charged with DUI after crash injures seven children
A drunken driving suspect from Lombard was ordered held on $50,000 bail Monday after his car struck a vehicle carrying seven children late Sunday night in Elk Grove Village. Austin Hall, 28, was charged with aggravated DUI, a felony punishable by up to three years in prison. Probation is also an option. Full story.
Gire: Comedy icon Gene Wilder credited Mel Brooks for his career
"If it hadn't been for Mel Brooks putting me into 'The Producers,' I don't know if you and I would be talking today," Gene Wilder told Dann Gire during an August 1984 interview. Wilder, 83, died Monday from Alzheimer's disease. Full story.
Elgin survey delayed to spring 2017
The long saga of completing a citywide survey of Elgin residents continues. The survey initiative was approved by the city council in July 2015, but the process has been delayed for various reasons. The plan now is to mail it out in spring 2017, Elgin senior management analyst Laura Valdez-Wilson said. Full story.
Woodman's store in Lakemoor on hold as legal action continues
An attempt to settle a lawsuit over a special financing district created to attract development to a long-idle corner in Lakemoor remains at an impasse. In advance of a status hearing on the matter, Mayor Todd Weihofen last week contacted Wauconda Township, Wauconda Unit District 118 and Wauconda Area Library officials to restate the village's desire to settle the case that is also delaying a proposal to build a Woodman's Food Market there at routes 12 and 120. Bears clear Miller, Royal for contact play
