Book group to revisit the Lusitania

Copies of "Dead Wake: The Last Crossing of the Lusitania" by Erik Larson are now available at the readers services desk at the Des Plaines Public Library, 1501 Ellinwood St.

The book will be discussed at the Des Plaines History Center, 781 Pearson St., from 6-7 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 21. Adults and high school students are welcome.

This best-seller does more than describe the sinking of the RMS Lusitania in 1915. It captures the drama and power of a disaster whose true meaning has been obscured by history. Readers are invited to sit back and let the master of narrative nonfiction take them on a journey about one of the greatest tragedies during World War I.

Larson is the author of many other intriguing books, including In the "Garden of Beasts," "Thunderstruck," and "The Devil in the White City."

The book discussion is free and open to the public. Join History Center Curator Philip Mohr as he facilitates a lively event. Pick up a copy at the Des Plaines Public Library on the third floor.

Call the History Center at (847) 391-5399 to register. This event is co-sponsored by the History Center and the Des Plaines Public Library.
