Lake in the Hills man killed in crash near Harvard

A 22-year-old Lake in the Hills man was killed over the weekend in a two-vehicle crash near Harvard, officials said.

A preliminary investigation determined a Ford F-150 pickup truck was traveling east on Streit Road in unincorporated Dunham Township about 7:38 p.m. Saturday, according to a news release from the McHenry County sheriff's office. After failing to yield at a stop sign at the Route 23 intersection, the pickup truck hit a Nissan Maxima sedan that was traveling south.

The driver of the pickup truck, whose name was not released, was not wearing his seat belt and was ejected from the vehicle, officials said. He was pronounced dead at OSF Saint Anthony Medical Center in Rockford.

The passengers of the Nissan, a 23-year-old woman and a 2-year-old boy, both from Harvard, were taken to Rockford Memorial Hospital, authorities said. The boy's injuries are nonlife-threatening, officials said, and the woman is in critical condition.

The driver, a 24-year-old Harvard man, was also taken to the hospital for precautionary reasons, officials said.

The cause of the crash has not been determined. The McHenry County Sheriff's Traffic Crash Investigations Unit and the Winnebago County coroner's office are investigating.
