Located on 4.5 square miles of land in the southwest corner of Lake County, the village of Kildeer is home to just under 4,000 residents.

The village is part of Ela Township, and its neighbors Deer Park, Hawthorn Woods, Lake Zurich and Long Grove. Kildeer was incorporated in 1958, and it is bordered by Rand Road, Route 22 and Quentin Road.

Kildeer features a number of subdivisions, the Kildeer Nature Center, the Kemper Lakes Golf Club and a variety of retail outlets and restaurants. The Kildeer Marketplace, the Quentin Collection and The Shops at Kildeer are the village's main shopping areas - all on Rand Road. Construction has begun on a new mall, to be called Kildeer Village Square, next to the Kildeer Marketplace. The new mall is set to open in the fall of 2017.

Chief village officer Michael Talbett said the quality of Kildeer's homesites, its natural areas and greenery and the lifestyle it offers are what attracts residents and visitors to the village.

"It's a safe area, and the quality is exceptional," Talbett said. "People come here because it's safe, it's quiet and they have nice neighbors."

Talbett said the village's staff is exceptional, and the neighborhood-style village hall is always welcoming.

"Residents are welcome to come in to village hall - and they often do - just to say hello. We have a very professional police force. And our police will stop people on the street just to say hello too. We are a small community with a caring police force."

Kildeer also blends the feel of a being a small town in a modern era, Talbett said.

"People really seem to value Kildeer, because it's like an old-time place that is also current," Talbett said.
