Schaumburg parade celebrates town's 60th anniversary

High school bands, vibrantly decorated floats, colorfully dressed dancers and more marched past thousands of spectators lined up along Summit Drive in Schaumburg on Monday as the community marked the end of summer with its annual Septemberfest parade.

Billed as one of the suburbs' largest parades, featuring a two-mile route that ended at the Septemberfest festival grounds, this year's event was built around the theme of Schaumburg's 60th anniversary. The village was incorporated March 7, 1956, and many of the parade participants crafted their entries to show off their history in the community.

As usual, spectators walked away impressed and satisfied. And the younger ones walked away with loads of treats.

"I've been coming for years," Debbie Anaya of Roselle. "It's one of the best parades around."
