White Sox trade Navarro to Blue Jays for minor-league reliever

Before Friday night's game against the Seattle Mariners, Alex Avila returned from a rehabilitation assignment with Class AAA Charlotte and the Chicago White Sox had three catchers, including veteran Dioner Navarro and rookie Omar Narvaez.

That was one too many, but the Sox quickly got back to two when Navarro was traded to the Toronto Blue Jays.

In exchange for Navarro, the Jays sent minor-league relief pitcher Colton Turner to the White Sox.

Turner, a left-hander, was a combined 3-1 with a 1.33 ERA and 13 saves in 44 appearances with Class A Lansing, A Dunedin and AA New Hampshire this season.

Toronto's 21st-round draft pick in 2012, the 25-year-old Turner was 12-9 with a 2.76 ERA in 107 games (16 starts) over five seasons in the Blue Jays' minor-league system.

The Sox assigned Turner to Class AA Birmingham.

Signed to a one-year, $4 million contract on Dec. 4, Navarro batted .210 with 6 home runs and 32 RBI in 85 games with the Sox this season. The 32-year-old switch-hitter played for the Jays in 2014-15.

Before Friday's game against Seattle, the White Sox reinstated Avila from the disabled list.
