Wife killed, husband badly hurt in northern Indiana blast

CLAYPOOL, Ind. (AP) - Authorities say a woman was killed and her husband badly injured when their home exploded in rural northern Indiana.

The Kosciusko (kahs-ee-AHS'-koh) County coroner's office said Friday that 68-year-old Kay Justis died in the explosion Thursday afternoon near the town of Claypool. Sixty-seven-year-old Larry Justis was listed in critical condition at a Fort Wayne hospital.

The sheriff's department says the first officer who arrived heard someone in the rubble and that emergency workers found Larry Justis under 2 feet of debris. He was flown by helicopter to the hospital.

Kay Justis was later found dead at the scene about 40 miles west of Fort Wayne.

Authorities say fire investigators are working to determine what caused the explosion.
