A video gambling cafe may open up shop in a Sleepy Hollow storefront that has been vacant for years.

Representatives for Elsie's Place, a chain of gaming restaurants owned by Minnesota-based Lieberman Companies, are eyeing space within a strip mall behind the new Dunkin' Donuts, Village President Stephan Pickett said.

Though an opening date has not been determined, he said, the company has taken out an application for a building permit and filed an application for a liquor license at 1037 W. Main St. The unit is one of several empty storefronts in the strip mall, which is also home to Rosati's Pizza and Salsa Street Mexican Restaurant and Cantina.

With plans to install a handful of slot and video poker machines, Elsie's Place would become Sleepy Hollow's first video gambling location, Pickett said. In addition to sales tax dollars, the village would receive a portion of the video gaming revenue, which is dispersed among the state, municipality and establishment owner.

Since the first Elsie's Place was established in Worth in 2014, Lieberman Companies has opened seven other Illinois locations, including in Waukegan and Streamwood, according to its website. The menu includes sandwiches, pizza, cookies and finger food, such as mini pretzels and chicken bites.

Elsie's Place isn't the only company that has recently expressed interest in Sleepy Hollow, Pickett said, pointing to Midway Autohaus, a used car dealership that may take over an abandoned furniture store.

"We're finally beginning to rock 'n' roll in Sleepy Hollow," he said.
