Elk Grove park buildings come down, making way for new ones

A cluster of small buildings at the Elk Grove Park District's Community Athletic Fields has been torn down to make way for a new concession stand, bathrooms and maintenance buildings.

Construction started last month on the $2.3 million project to build two amenity buildings covering 2,800 square feet.

In between will be a shade structure covering a 900-square-foot patio.

Crews from Wight & Co., the firm that was awarded the contract in May, also recently installed a new water main pipe in preparation for the new buildings, said Tom Busby, the park district's executive director.

The buildings should be up before winter, and open by next spring, he said.

Fencing is around the construction site, and fields at the 23-acre park at Arlington Heights Road and Devon Avenue in Itasca are still in use by football and softball teams.
