Palatine Street Fest runs Friday through Sunday

Palatine Street Fest, running Friday through Sunday, Aug. 26-28, will offer a variety of family activities, including bike rides, a pet parade, a run followed by a pancake breakfast, and kids entertainment in addition to the usual festival food and band lineup.

Festival hours are 5 p.m. to midnight Friday, 11 a.m. to midnight Saturday and 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday in the heart of downtown Palatine at the intersection of Brockway and Slade streets. Visit www.palatinestreetfest.com.

The Kids Zone will be open from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday. Activities at various times include games and inflatables, police K-9 demonstration, magician, balloon artist, martial arts demonstration, reptile exhibit, the Trinity Irish Dancers and the School of Rock Arlington Heights.

CycleFest includes 9-, 15-, 23- or 33-mile tour options for riders of various skill levels. Day-of registration begins at 8:45 a.m. Saturday. Tours depart from Towne Square. Cost is $20 to $25. Trained leaders accompany each group.

Cyclists must wear helmets and those younger than 14 must be accompanied by an adult. Visit www.bikepalatine.com.

The Feet Fest 3K Family Fun Run is at 8:30 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 28, at Towne Square, 150 W. Palatine Road. Race fee is $15 on the day of the event. For details, call (847) 991-0333 or visit palatineparks.org.

The race is followed by the Sons of the American Legion pancake breakfast from 8to 11:30 a.m. at the American Legion Hall, 122 W. Palatine Road, benefiting Legion Family Charities.

Breakfast is $9, $5 for children ages 4-10 and free for younger children.

"Adult runners from the Feet Fest 3K run who are wearing their race bib will get $1 off their breakfast," said Adam Anderson, commander of the group.

The Palatine Area Chamber of Commerce will hold the 16th annual Sweet Pea Pet Parade at 11:30 a.m. Sunday at the Towne Square gazebo, 150 W. Palatine Road. Prizes will be awarded for best dressed (homemade), best dressed (store bought), most colorful coat, best talker/most sociable, most laid back/relaxed, longest ears. Visit www.palatinechamber.com.
