Schaumburg library invites patrons to book groups

A variety of book discussion groups at the Schaumburg Township District Library have openings for the new season.

Most adults interested in reading and discussing books are welcome to join. There is no fee for participation, however, members will need to borrow or purchase the book selections. Register for book discussions when picking up loaner copies.

Young(ish) Adult Book Club, for adults who enjoy reading and discussing young adult books, will be from 1-2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 11, at Wally's Coffeehouse, 55 W. Schaumburg Road, in Schaumburg's Town Square.

September's title is "The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian" by Sherman Alexie. Limited loaner copies are available at the Fiction Desk on the library's first floor. No registration required.

Who Filmed this Book will take place from 6:30-9 p.m. Wednesdays, Sept. 14 and 28, at the Hanover Park Branch Library, 1266 Irving Park Road. Limited loaner copies of "The Big Sleep" by Raymond Chandler are available at the Hanover Branch Library.

The Polish Book Discussion will run from 7:30-9 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 14, in the Adult Classroom of the Central Library, 130 S. Roselle Road, Schaumburg.

Participants read and discuss books in the Polish language. When participants register, they will be contacted by the moderator to make arrangements for purchasing the book.

Beyond the Book book discussions will take place at various times and locations, with limited loaner copies available at the Fiction Desk. "This is Your Life, Harriet Chance" by Jonathan Evison will be from 7:30-8:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 15, in the Rasmussen South Room of the Central Library in Schaumburg.

"The Light Between Oceans" by M.L. Stedman will be from 1:30-2:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 16, at the Hoffman Estates Branch, 1550 Hassell Road.

"Night" by Elie Wiesel will run from 10-11 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 20, in the Rasmussen South Room of the Central Library in Schaumburg.

The Happily Ever After Romance Book Discussion is scheduled from 7-8 p.m. Monday, Sept. 26, in the Rasmussen North Room of the Central Library in Schaumburg. Limited loaner copies of "Flirting with Pete" by Barbara Delinsky will be available at the Fiction Desk.

The Korean Book Discussion is slated from 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 27, in the Rasmussen South Room of the Central Library in Schaumburg. Members read and discuss books in the Korean language. Participants should register by calling (847) 923-3347 and will be contacted by the moderator to make arrangements for purchasing the book.

Second Floor Reads, the library's nonfiction book discussion group, will meet from 6:30-7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 28, in the Rasmussen North Room of the Central Library in Schaumburg. Readers may pick up loaner copies of "Assassination Vacation" by Sarah Vowell at the Reference Desk.
