Last day in Schaumburg for some Motorola Solutions workers
About 200 Motorola Solutions employees spent their last day at the company's former global headquarters in Schaumburg on Thursday, before starting next Monday at the company's new Chicago office in the West Loop.
The group of employees is the second of three waves of workers migrating from Schaumburg to Motorola's new headquarters at 500 W. Monroe St., Motorola Solutions Director of Communications Tama McWhinney said.
The first wave arrived in Chicago last week, while the third will make the move Sept. 12, she added.
When the move is complete, about 800 employees will work out of the new global headquarters in Chicago, while approximately 1,600 will continue to work on the part of the Schaumburg campus that will remain an engineering facility.
"It's still our biggest engineering center in the world," McWhinney said of the Schaumburg site.
Motorola is working with Schaumburg officials on an $80 million renovation of the portion of the 277-acre campus the company will continue to use.
