Waukegan man charged in Antioch-area overdose death

As part of a two-month operation aimed at taking heroin off the streets, the Lake County sheriff's office arrested a Waukegan resident for selling a 25-year-old man a fatal dose of the drug, police said in a news release.

An arrest warrant for Darrin S. Reed, 32, of the 600 block of North Martin Avenue, was obtained Thursday on charges including drug-induced homicide and unlawful delivery of a controlled substance.

Authorities said Reed sold heroin to Joseph Bond, who was found dead in June on the 26000 block of West Catalpa Road near Antioch.

The Lake County Gang Task Force searched Reed's home after Bond's death and recovered 22 grams of heroin and about $6,000, according to the news release

Reed initially was charged with a number of felony drug charges June 15. He is being held in Lake County jail on $950,000 bail.

Reed's next court appearance is 9 a.m. Friday.

Throughout the operation, which was conducted from June 8 through Aug. 1, sheriff's office warrants division arrested 53 people. The operation focused on the northwest quadrant of Lake County.
