Women's Club of Inverness kicks off new year

A new year begins for the Women's Club of Inverness, a philanthropic organization dedicated to serving the needs of women, children, families and seniors in the communities surrounding Inverness.

This year, Eileen Kohne takes on the responsibility of leadership as club president. The theme, inspired by her granddaughter, is "Kindness is the New Pretty."

"We carefully select the grant recipients through the Philanthropy Committee, as well as award collegiate scholarships through the Education Committee. Most times we do not know the effect on the individual participants - how it impacted a life, a family, a future and generally the difference it made.

"These are our 'Random Acts of Kindness.' I am hoping more women from the Northwest suburban area will want to join us this year as we create more kindness," said Kohne.

Cheryl Trzupek, previous president, now club director, will help advise Kohne.

During her presidency, Trzupek's favorite part was "the support we provide to our local community."

She also understands philanthropy and scholarship applications speak of community need.

Kathy Anderson, another past president and director, stands willing to offer suggestions after her positive experience with this volunteer network as she complimented members for having "hearts which are so full of caring for so many people who have been dealt a rough hand."

Anderson describes her leadership years as "a whirlwind of adventure, and I am so glad to have gone through it with WCI members."

Other longtime members and previous presidents add their experiences to this year's fundraisers and committees. As Kohne said about membership, it's a way "to give back to the Northwest suburban area" and to develop friendships.

The year is expected to have a full calendar. The township's back to school program, Apple Tree, leads off with WCI members volunteering to help children choose school supplies. In early September, the first general meeting begins with representatives from local philanthropic organizations and a former scholarship recipient sharing experiences.

October brings Make-a-Difference Day opportunities to the members of Women's Club of Inverness. At the end of October, the first fundraiser kicks off with Witches and Broomsticks at Medinah Country Club. Filling in days between these two October events is the signup for Adopt-a-Family.

The Women's Club of Inverness is a philanthropic 501 (c) (3) organization, now in its 52nd year. Check out the website, womensclubofinverness.com.
