Elgin police to host forum on use of force Tuesday

In an effort to help residents better understand police use of force, the Elgin Police Department will host a community presentation from 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 30, in The Centre of Elgin's Heritage Ballroom, 100 Symphony Way.

It will offer an overview of the use of force options available to Elgin officers, state law guiding police use of force, police department policies, and how deployment efforts are made.

The presentation is designed to educate the community as to how the Elgin Police Department utilizes training to properly deploy force options.

"In today's environment, the Elgin Police Department recognizes that it is important for our citizens to know how and why Elgin police officers may have to use force and what options are available," said Elgin Police Chief Jeff Swoboda. "This will be a great interactive discussion and we hope many residents are able to attend this event."

There is no fee to attend the presentation. No preregistration is required to attend.

A parent or guardian must accompany participants under the age of 18. For questions, contact Commander Ana Lalley at (847) 289-2761.
