A chance to honor Oldham by paying it forward

Kevin Oldham lost his battle with pancreatic cancer at age 33, five years ago.

In memory of the former Warren Township High School wrestler, football player, baseball player and Waukegan firefighter, "Mohawk Less Cancer Pays It Forward" will take place on Saturday, Sept. 10. The police-escorted, memorial ride through Lake County will begin and end at Jesse Oaks, 18490 W. Old Gages Lakes Rd. in Gages Lake. Part of the route will be riding past the fire station on Jackson and Golf roads.

The cost, which includes admission to an after-party, is $20 for riders and $10 for passengers. Rider registration is 9-11:45 a.m. Those not riding can still attend the after-party at 3 p.m. Cost is $10. "Says Who" will be performing. Besides live music, there will be food, silent auctions, raffles and purple mohawks.

Oldham was diagnosed with stage IV inoperable pancreatic cancer in April of 2010. With so much support from the community surrounding him and his family, Oldham had a wish to pay it forward to bless others struggling through illness or tragedy.

This is a family-friendly event. All the proceeds will go to firefighters battling cancer and pancreatic cancer research. Mohawk Less Cancer is a nonprofit organization.
