Officials: Port could spur development in southeast Indiana

LAWRENCEBURG, Ind. (AP) - The state of Indiana is looking into building the state's fourth port, possibly in southeastern Indiana near Cincinnati.

Lt. Gov. Eric Holcomb said earlier this month at a luncheon in Lawrenceburg that the state is working to identify and secure the port's location. He said a formal announcement could come soon.

Lawrenceburg's coordinator and redevelopment director, Bryan Messmore, tells the Cincinnati Enquirer (http://cin.ci/2bgAhAn ) that the port could jumpstart other development opportunities and jobs in the city.

Dearborn County Commissioner Kevin Lynch says he's had discussions with Indiana's Congressional representatives and other state leaders about planning and where funds for the development could come from.

A Ports of Indiana Commission spokesman said in a statement that the project doesn't have a definitive timeframe.
