Judge reduces Des Plaines alderman's supervision sentence

A judge agreed Wednesday to bring an early end to Des Plaines Alderman Dick Sayad's 18-month term of court supervision stemming from his misdemeanor criminal trespassing case.

The alderman had less than four months to go on supervision, but Cook County Judge Michael Hood previously told Sayad's attorneys he'd consider a request to reduce the sentence after 12 months.

Last summer, Hood found Sayad guilty of trespassing for walking uninvited into a resident's house on the 400 block of Harvey Avenue in February 2015 to discuss complaints about an unshoveled sidewalk. Sayad said he walked up a flight of stairs to what he believed was a second-floor apartment.

Sayad appealed, but the judge upheld the verdict earlier this year.

In addition to the original 18-month sentence of supervision, Sayad had to pay $1,369 in fines, court costs and fees.
