Nichols Library to close for two days

Nichols Library will close Thursday, Aug. 25 and Friday, Aug. 26 to complete carpeting in the fiction, audio visual and teen shelving areas. More closures also may take place in mid-September for furniture installation. More details regarding September's closing dates to come.

After last year's complete remodeling of Naper Boulevard Library and in conjunction with Nichols

Library's 30-year anniversary at its Riverwalk location this year, the downtown location is undergoing a major transformation.

Renovations, which began mid-April and are scheduled to last through the end of September, include an updated, fresh look with new furniture, flooring, carpeting, additional meeting room space, storyroom

renovations and remodeling of the staircase. Renovations also will include replacing the library's sliding doors, the skylight, the outdoor sign and lobby flooring.

"I think one of the most striking things will be how open the facility will be and that the view out to the Riverwalk will be restored," Executive Director Julie Rothenfluh said. "Other exciting features will be the updated Community Room, the new program space (formerly the computer lab), the renovated staircase and lobby spaces and the Tech Bar by the relocated computer lab which will feature many of the tools currently available at the Idea Lab at 95th Street Library."

The 95th Street Library project entails design work of public spaces, new service desks, new front

entrance doors, new tables and seating, new flooring, a new and more dedicated teen space, painting,electrical work and more. The goal is to have the design work completed by October, so bids can be sent out the end of October. Construction is set for January 2017.
