Take part in Ice Arena Open House in Mount Prospect

The Mount Prospect Park District offer learn-to- skate and hockey classes, as well as youth and adult hockey leagues, at the Mount Prospect Ice Arena beginning in September.

Interested participants can get a free sneak peek at the Ice Programming Preview from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 27, at the Mount Prospect Ice Arena. The preview includes registration, skating and hockey lesson demos, public skate, meet and greet the instructors and staff, as well as give-a-ways and prizes.

"The Mount Prospect Park District is excited to be a part of this public/private partnership with the Mount Prospect Ice Arena," said Executive Director Greg Kuhs. "This is the premiere ice arena in the Northwest suburbs. I am certain the public will agree this state-of-the-art facility provides outstanding skating opportunities for everyone."

This Saturday's Program Preview lays the foundation for the continued development of the park district skating programs.

The learn-to-skate programs consist of six progressive skill levels introducing the fundamental skills of ice skating while gaining the confidence to advance to competitive level skating or transition into hockey.

The Youth Hockey League emphasizes individual skill development, teamwork, and sportsmanship while preparing skaters for a lifetime love of hockey. Additional programs include an adult hockey league, adult hockey clinics and open public skate.

Additional program preview events will be from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 11, and Sunday, Sept. 18, at the ice arena.

Registration is underway at all park district facilities or at mppd.org. All classes are held at the Mount Prospect Ice Arena, 1501 Feehanville Drive. Contact hockey coordinator Jacob Kaplan at (847) 640-1000, ext. 217, or jkaplan@mppd.org for additional program and equipment information.
