Kane County Cougars shut out again, fall to to Bees 5-0

The Kane County Cougars (24-34, 57-71) have now been shut out 15 times this year, as the Burlington Bees (31-27, 63-65) blanked the Cougar offense 5-0 Tuesday night at Community Field.

Max Duval (1-6) didn't allow a hit until the third inning, but it was a solo home run to Alexi Rivera for a 1-0 Bees lead. Burlington continued the offense, driving home an unearned run to put them up by a pair.

The next inning, the Bees doubled their advantage as they sent eight batters to the plate against Duval. Michael Barash drew a bases-loaded walk to force in a run, while Troy Montgomery connected on an infield single to plate Jared Walsh, putting the Bees up 4-0.

Connor Justus made it a 5-0 lead with a solo shot of his own in the fifth inning.

Jose Rodriguez (6-5) worked five shutout innings against the Cougars, only allowing a hit. He fanned six batters as the Cougars only produced three base runners during his time on the mound.

The Cougars' bullpen was solid for the second consecutive night and Cody Clark worked two perfect frames before a 1-2-3 eighth inning by Mason McCullough.

With the loss, the Cougars' elimination number from the postseason drops to five. Twelve games remain in the regular season.

Game 3 of this four-game set begins at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday. Right-hander Jose Almonte (2-4, 2.66) will take the mound for the Cougars against Burlington's Luis Pena (4-8, 3.89).
