Du Quoin State Fair to kick off with cow-milking contest

DU QUOIN, Ill. (AP) - A group of local celebrities will kick off this year's Du Quoin State Fair with a cow-milking contest.

Fair officials said Tuesday that the inaugural Moo Moo Classic is scheduled for Thursday at the fairgrounds in Southern Illinois. The celebrity who can get the most milk from a dairy cow in three minutes will be declared the winner.

Among the contestants are State Fair Manager Kevin Gordon and state Rep. Terri Bryant. They'll face off against local radio and TV reporters and others.

The fair begins Friday and runs through Sept. 5.

Gordon says Thursday's event is free and open to the public.
