Des Plaines house fire causes $200k in damage

Des Plaines firefighters extinguished a house fire early Tuesday morning after they were alerted to it by a passer-by who saw smoke, authorities said.

It took firefighters about 20 minutes to put out the fire in the one-story house on the 300 block of Eaker Place, located on the city's southwest side.

Fire Chief Alan Wax said the first fire crew that arrived at 6:33 a.m. saw heavy flames emitting from a bedroom window and heavy smoke throughout. The origin of the fire was determined to be the bedroom, though investigators are still working to determine a cause.

No one was home at the time, and no injuries were reported.

Officials estimate $200,000 worth of damages were incurred as a result of the fire.
