Gurnee police cracking down on DUIs, seat belt violations

Gurnee police announced they began a traffic enforcement crackdown Monday. Police said the special patrols are designed to coincide with the Labor Day weekend and will run through Sept. 6. Police will conduct additional seat belt and impaired driver enforcement patrols. The police said the beefed-up patrols will run from 9 a.m. through 6 a.m. because statistics show a disproportionate number of traffic deaths occur late at night and involve an impaired driver and/or unbuckled motorist. The special enforcement activities are funded by a grant from the Illinois Department of Transportation and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
