There's better alternative for parking lot

At the corner of Oglesby and Delany sits a cute little white house. Warren Township wants to demolish it, pave over the grass and cut down all the trees to make a parking lot that will only be used twice a month.

The entire neighborhood has signed a petition to fight this parking lot. One of us has hired an attorney. There have already been two meetings that the township has not been prepared for and there will be a third Sept. 7.

Despite the fact that the zoning is not a done deal, they have begun cutting down trees. Everyone noticed.

As school starts, every student from kindergarten to eighth grade catches the bus on that corner. It is a quiet corner in a quiet neighborhood.

There is only one way in and out of the neighborhood. What possible use can a parking lot have at that corner except to increase traffic, endangering our children in the morning and afternoon?

Warren Township has a parking lot next to its building. It is never full. All the medical buildings at the corner of Greenleaf and Oglesby have parking lots that are also never full and are empty in the evenings and on weekends.

If the parking lot is to be used for special events, why not move these events to Warren Township's property at Almond and Washington Street where it has a large park, large parking lot as well as not being in a residential area?
