Golf: Mikaelian, Libertyville take top invite honors

Simone Mikaelian fired a 75, and Libertyville's girls golf team won its annual invitational on Thursday at Pine Meadow.

Megan Sturonas and Colby Roberts each added an 86 for the Wildcats, who also counted Madeleine Hollinger's 92. Libertyville's 339 was 14 strokes better than runner-up Glenbrook North (353). Lake Forest (357) was third, followed by Deerfield (359), Carmel (360) and Vernon Hills (412).

"Our kids played really well," Libertyville coach Greg Pedersen said. "We underperformed in our first event on Tuesday (at Wynstone), but each girl took a big step toward improvement today."

Mikaelian, a three-time state qualifier, finished third. Deerfield's Elyse Emerzian was the medalist with a 73, and Glenbrook North's Emma Vickery shot a 74.

Carmel was paced by Danielle Savovich;s 83, Erin Kehoe's 86 and Charlotte Roberts' 87.

Boys golf

Grant quad: At Antioch Golf Club on Friday, Richmond-Burton shot a winning 168 to edge Zion-Benton (174), Maine West (177) and host Grant (179).

Zion-Benton's Karl Torola was the medalist with a 3-over-par 38. Grant was led by Richard Flogel's 43 and Kyle Broome's 44.
