COD Offers Physical Security and Asset Protection Class Sept. 22

The Homeland Security Training Institute at College of DuPage is offering a new Physical Security and Asset Protection class from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 22. All classes will be held in the Robert J. Miller Homeland Security Education Center on the College's main campus, 425 Fawell Blvd., in Glen Ellyn.

Leading this class is Brian Wedoff, Regional Loss Prevention Manager at Ulta Beauty, Inc., who will provide a comprehensive overview of physical security and asset protection. Wedoff will cover a variety of topics, including basic emergency response protocols, the importance of business continuity planning, emergency response and executive protection programs, and best practices focused on developing a culture of asset protection.

Participants will also learn about bolstering protection of "soft targets" (businesses, malls, theaters, arenas, etc.), the impact of premises liability due to lack of preparation or response, and how to respond to large-scale leaks of proprietary information, embezzlement or threats to senior leadership. In addition, participants will engage in a table-top exercise to identify and organize existing resources to defend against current and future threats.

Physical security refers to security measures designed to deny unauthorized access to facilities, equipment and resources, and to protect personnel and property from damage or harm, including protection from fire, natural disasters, theft, vandalism and terrorism.

Registration is required and seating is limited. For more information and to register, please contact the HSTI at (630) 942-3427 or email cameronl@cod.edu.
