Buffalo Grove board honors Dean Klassman

The Buffalo Grove village board this week honored Dean Klassman, who earlier this summer was awarded the Rotary Club of Buffalo Grove Bill Reid Community Service Award. The annual award, named in honor of a longtime trustee, is given to those whose efforts enhance the spirit of the community.

Klassman is a commissioner on the Buffalo Grove Commission for Residents with Disabilities and a past board member and vice president for The Center for Enriched Living. He is active with Keshet, "A Rainbow of Hope for Individuals with Special Needs."

He is best known for his involvement with Buddy Baseball, which allows children and young adults with physical and developmental disabilities to play the sport with the help of volunteers known as buddies.

Klassman received a $500 contribution to the charity of his choice, as well as a $500 contribution in his name to the Rotary Foundation. He chose to donate to the Buffalo Grove Park District. He donated an additional $500 to the Buffalo Grove Recreation Association. Both have been integral to the Buddy Baseball program.
