Kids learn about veggies in 'Fresh from the Garden' program

Around 20 children and their caregivers got a firsthand look a vegetables on Wednesday.

The Lake County Forest Preserve District held a "Fresh from the Garden" event at the Bonner Heritage Farm near Lindenhurst as part of its Little Sprouts program.

Lake County Discovery Museum educator Nicole Stocker taught the kids various parts of a plant before reading the story "Chicks and Salsa."

After the story, the kids made their way to the garden where they picked onions, garlic and other vegetables. Stocker helped the kids make salsa from the freshly picked veggies.
