Elburn village administrator to step down

Elburn Village Administrator Erin Willrett is stepping down at the end of August.

Village President Dave Anderson announced the resignation at a village board meeting Monday night. He said she is leaving to take another job but would not specify where.

"She did a marvelous job. She's a beautiful young lady and a quick study and will do well" at the new job, Anderson said.

Willrett has worked for the village since 2008, when she started as community development director. Anderson appointed her administrator, with the village board's consent, when he took office in April 2009.

Earlier this year, Willrett tried to get a severance package to quit, as some trustees were unhappy with her performance. The board refused. Several trustees indicated they would not vote in favor of reappointing Willrett as administrator. Anderson had reappointed Willrett every spring.

But this spring, Anderson said he learned that he did not need to reappoint Willrett every year, and that his previous appointment would instead last through the end of his term in office in April 2017.

Anderson said the board will hire a company to look for a replacement. He also said there will be an interim administrator and that he will announce the name at the next board meeting.

Willrett could not be reached for comment Wednesday afternoon.
