Sept 2: The Lake in the Hills Summer Sunset Festival Cruise In, 5-9 p.m. on Miller Road, between Hayward and Chadwick lanes, near Sunset Park. Sept. 9-11: Second annual Ephraim Hill Climb and Concours, Door County, Wisconsin. Sponsored by Concours d'Elegance of Chicago. Features rare prewar European and American classics and significant postwar sports cars. Ephraim Village Hall will serve as headquarters throughout the event. Sept. 10: Daily Herald classic car columnist Matt Avery will be on hand at the Randhurst Village Street Fest, which runs from noon to 5 p.m. at the Mount Prospect open-air mall. The Street Fest will include an Original Owner Showcase featuring owners who purchased their autos new and held onto them for decades. There will also be a Custom Shop Spotlight featuring one shop and its hot rod, custom creations. Avery will interview some of the owners and take questions from the crowd. Sept. 11: 30th annual British Car Festival, 9 a.m.-3 p.m. at Harper College, 1200 W. Algonquin Road, Palatine. More than 20 British car clubs, 500 automobiles, authentic British food, Irish dancers, music, technical learning sessions, car merchandise giveaways, classic car parts vendors and new car dealers showcasing the latest imports from Great Britain. For the first time, this year's festival will include valve cover racing, a gravity propelled competition using modified automobile engine valve covers on wheels. Admission is free, with donations encouraged for Shelter Inc. Early car registration is $20 before Aug. 23, and $25 after the deadline.
