Grayslake Summer Days has music, food, more

The Grayslake Chamber of Commerce and Industry will present this year's Summer Days festival on Friday and Saturday, Aug. 19 and 20 in downtown Grayslake, at Center and Whitney streets. Festival hours are 5 p.m. to midnight on Friday and 11 a.m. to midnight Saturday.

The event will feature music, carnival games, food vendors and a business booth area.

A Bike and Pet parade will step off at noon Saturday. Line Up starts at 10 a.m. on Slusser Street, and the parade proceeds east on Park Avenue to Seymore Avenue and ends on Whitney Street.

The main Summer Days Parade will begin at 6:30 p.m. Saturday, with the theme "Music Makes the World Go Round." Parade lineup will be a Grayslake Central High School, and the route will go from Lake Street to Center Street and end up at the festival site on Whitney Street.

Local students have invited the community to build go-karts to race during Summer Days. The races will take place at 1 p.m. Saturday on Park Avenue and Whitney Street. For more information, visit www.foundation46.org.

Bingo will be held from 7-10 p.m. Friday and 3-10 p.m. Saturday. A bags tournament will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday to benefit the Booster Clubs of Grayslake Central and Grayslake North High School. Admission to the bags tournament is $40 per team for ages 15 and older and $10 per team for ages 14 and younger,

The Rotary Club of Grayslake will hold its annual Kiss the Pig Contest at 4 p.m. Saturday. Local celebrities (this year will feature local attorneys) compete in pre-event fundraising to win the right to kiss a live pig on stage. Funds raised support G.C.H.S. scholarships, the Oasis Youth Center, and local charities and food pantries.

Musical acts will include Deeze Guize and Mike & Joe on Friday; and Slam Funk, Svelte Bobb and the Soulfixers, Blush and 7th heaven on Saturday.

Guests are invited to stop by the Grayslake Heritage Center & Museum at 164 Hawley St. during the festival. The museum will also have a tent at Summer Days. Local merchants will also have special offers to coincide with the festival.

Food vendors scheduled to be on hand include Brat Shop, Dog 'n Suds, Glunz Family Winery, Tres Flores & Co., and Luke's of Mundelein, and the Exchange Club of Grayslake will operate a beer booth.
