Authorities: Two more out-of-state people target Deer Park Apple store

Las Vegas residents arrested in Deer Park

Two more out-of-state residents have been charged with stealing from the Apple Store in Deer Park, authorities said Monday.

Gregory J. Ganci, 50, and Jeri E. Duncan, 36, both from Las Vegas, face counts of theft, possession of stolen property, and possession of drug paraphernalia, said Lake County Sheriff's Det. Chris Covelli. Duncan also faces one count of possession of a controlled substance after being found with heroin, Covelli said.

Officers were called to the Deer Park Apple Store at 20530 N. Rand Road at 3:06 p.m. Saturday for a report of suspicious people who matched the description of two people who committed thefts at Apple stores in Schaumburg and Oak Brook, Covelli said.

Sheriff's deputies went to the store and found the two sitting in a vehicle, Covelli said. Sheriff deputies made contact with them and found two stolen Apple drones in their vehicle, Covelli said.

The investigation determined they have been involved in other Apple Store thefts throughout the United States, Covelli said.

Duncan is being held in Lake County jail on $10,000 bail and is due back in court Aug. 24. Ganci is being held in the Lake County jail on $75,000 bail and is due back in court Aug. 19.

Duncan and Ganci are the latest out-of-state residents arrested since mid-July for attempting to steal items from the Deer Park Apple Store, Covelli said. There is no connection between the latest arrests and the arrests of seven New Yorkers who were operating a burglary ring, he said.

However, the New York crew and the two from Las Vegas have been specifically targeting Apple Stores across the nation, Covelli said.

"The sheriff's office will continue working closely with officials from Apple Loss Prevention to identify and arrest thieves targeting Apple Stores in our area," Covelli said.
