Rolling Meadows man accused of domestic battery, sexual abuse

A 28-year-old Rolling Meadows man was ordered held on $300,000 bail Monday after, authorities say, he choked and sexually abused a woman after an argument.

Otto Palma Jr. was charged with aggravated sexual abuse and domestic battery, felonies that carry sentences of up to seven years in prison upon conviction. Probation is also an option.

Prosecutors say Palma and the woman had an argument about 9 p.m. Thursday during which Palma accused the victim of cheating on him.

He took her cellphone and began scrolling through it, said Cook County Assistant State's Attorney Caitlin Casey. When the woman attempted to leave, he grabbed her and blocked her from leaving the bedroom, Casey said.

Palma subsequently struck the woman four times, causing bruises and a chipped tooth, and choked her with both hands, Casey said.

According to Casey, he asked, "Do you want to die?" When she shook her head, he released her, Casey said. Palma, who has no criminal background, next appears in court Sept. 8.
