Join 'It's Our River Day' Sept. 17 in Algonquin

Explore the outdoors at the annual "It's Our River Day" from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 17, in Cornish Park, 101 S. Harrison St., Algonquin. It is sponsored by the Environmental Defenders of McHenry County and the village of Algonquin.

Learn about local environmental groups, participate in cleaning up the river, watch a live water rescue demonstration and more. This event is free to attend and for all ages.

The Algonquin-Lake in the Hills Fire Protection District will demonstrate water rescues in the river. The local Sierra Club will provide supplies to clean up the Fox River and surrounding areas. The Prairie State Canoeists will conduct a river cleanup.

Other participating organizations include: Illinois Paddling Council, Water Trailkeepers, Fox River Jeep Club, Village of Algonquin's Water and Sewer Departments; University of Illinois Master Gardener Program; McHenry County Schools Environmental Education Programs; Algonquin-Lake in the Hills Interfaith Food Pantry's Victory Garden; Environmental Defenders of McHenry County; McHenry County Conservation District; The Land Conservancy of McHenry County; McHenry County College Sustainability Center; and the Algonquin Area Public Library District.
