Vernon library trustee wins state award

Vernon Area Library District board President Jay Kasten has been named the Illinois Library Association's trustee of the year, officials announced. Kasten is sharing the award with a board member in downstate Granite City. They'll receive their prizes at the state group's annual conference in October. Kasten has served on the Lincolnshire-based board for more than 21 years. He's the third-longest serving trustee in Vernon Area's history.
