Fremont Library to Host Early Literacy Classes

Reading is a fundamental skill that builds the foundation required for life-long learning, but many children struggle with this basic task. Fremont Public Library in Mundelein will host two special programs that will enable adults to become their child's first and best teacher with an emphasis on early literacy skills.

The first program, The Road to Reading, will be held on Tuesday, Aug. 30, at 7 p.m. This adults-only program will focus on the components of early literacy, selecting books at the appropriate reading level, and what to do if you suspect your child struggles with reading. Anyone with an interest in early literacy is welcome to attend; light refreshments will be provided.

The second program, Early Learning Club/Club de Aprendizaje Temprano, is a series of three programs for children ages 3-5 to attend with their caregivers. The program will be presented in both Spanish and English. This club will guide adults as they learn to teach children colors, numbers, letters, shapes, and more. The club will meet on Thursdays, Sept. 8, 15, and 22, from 5-6:30 p.m.

All classes are free, but participants must reserve a space by calling 847-918-3218. You can also register online via the library's website: www.fremontlibrary.org.

The library is located at 1170 N. Midlothian Rd in Mundelein.
