1 in custody after Buffalo Grove break-in, stabbings

BUFFALO GROVE, Ill. (AP) - Police say they have a suspect in custody in connection with the stabbings of four people and a dog during a break-in at their suburban Chicago home.

Deputy Chief Roy Bethge of the Buffalo Grove Police Department said Thursday that two other people questioned by investigators following the stabbings have been released.

Police did not release the name of the suspect or any pending charges.

Bethge says the 47-year-old homeowner injured in the attack early Wednesday remains hospitalized and the dog is in good condition after surgery.

Bethge says investigators believe the attack wasn't random.

Police have said the homeowner was able to grab a handgun during the attack and fired shots toward at least one attacker, who then fled.
