Two of three people questioned in Buffalo Grove stabbings released

Buffalo Grove police continue to investigate the motive behind an early morning home invasion that left four residents and their dog recovering from stab wounds. No charges were announced last night from the attack inside a single-family home on the 400 block of St. Mary's Parkway, but two of three "persons of interest" questioned earlier in the day were allowed to leave, while the third person, who has not been identified, remained in police custody late last night. Elgin mayor sounds off on councilman's claims

Elgin Mayor David Kaptain last night skewered a council member who had alleged the city violated federal law during its yearly audit process. Councilman Rich Dunne alleged July 13 the city violated federal law by not soliciting bids before hiring the audit firm Sikich LLC to do its "single audit" of federal grants. Kaptain last night said he wanted to clear that up and protect the city's reputation. Full story.

Rosemont mayor's salary to rise to $260,000 a year next May

Rosemont Mayor Brad Stephens will be in line for a 53 percent pay raise if he is re-elected in April, the village board decided yesterday. The board unanimously approved salary increases for village elected officials, which includes Stephens' projected new annual salary of $260,000, effective May 2017. Full story.

Aurora man dead in Geneva motorcycle crash

Officials did not release last night the name of the 61-year-old male motorcycle rider from Aurora who died after striking a vehicle on Fabyan Parkway outside the Settler's Hill Golf Course in Batavia yesterday afternoon. The Aurora man was ejected from a 2006 black Harley-Davidson motorcycle in the crash. Full story.

Bail set at $3 million for Palatine man charged with sexual assault

A Cook County judge set a total bail of $3 million for a 27-year-old Palatine man charged with sexually assaulting two children about 10 years ago. Fernando Garcia is charged with predatory criminal sexual assault of a then-9-year-old girl and aggravated criminal sexual assault of a then-6-year-old boy. Full story.
