Rolling Meadows library should take over old Dominick's

I agree with those who voiced doubts about the proposed senior housing development in Rolling Meadows ("Plan for senior housing raises doubts", July 29). It makes no sense to have a senior development for Rolling Meadows that does not accept Medicare or insurance. Most residents of Rolling Meadows won't be able to live there.

What does make sense is to keep the area as a commercial property. I understand that there are problems finding tenants, especially an anchor tenant. Instead of viewing this situation as a problem, I think it presents an opportunity - move the Rolling Meadows Library into the old Dominick's store.

Placing the library in the mall provides enormous benefits - it's an anchor that will not disappear; a facility that would generate a constant flow of people to the mall; an expanded space for the library's collection of books and digital material; more meeting rooms for the public; more activity rooms for expanded programs for all ages.

The library would revitalize that end of the business district and be a draw for small businesses that provide services to the community.
