Children play on the biggest trucks in Barrington

Ron Beese Park in Barrington made its yearly transformation into a kid's paradise Saturday morning during the 17th annual Big Trucks event.

Children climbed into a whole host of big trucks including an ice cream truck, a garbage truck, a fire truck, two school buses, and several construction and other work vehicles.

J.D. LaSalla from Barrington Transportation Co. said he has brought school buses to each of the events and it is always a great time.

"We've never had a bad day and turnout has always been great," said LaSalla, amid the intermittent blast of vehicle horns. "The kids always like honking the horns; usually it's just constant."

This year, because of the widespread popularity of the mobile game "Pokemon Go," Barrington Transportation affixed yellow ears and red cheeks to one of the buses to make it resemble Pikachu, the iconic Pokemon character.

Besides checking out the trucks, kids were free to take rides aboard a trackless train, play on an inflatable fire truck and race their rivals in Big Wheel drag races.
